Modern Calligraphy for Beginners @ JB Duke Hotel Marketplace Bar

Handwritten notes never go out of style. For those with holiday cards, place cards and gift tags on their to-do lists, now is the perfect time to learn the art of calligraphy.

The beginner-friendly workshop will take place at the AAA Four Diamond JB Duke Hotel’s Marketplace Bar and will be led by Anna White of Sip & Script. Designed for stationery enthusiasts, DIY brides-to-be and anyone interested in trying something new, the class will introduce modern calligraphy techniques using a pointed dip pen and ink.

Participants will receive two hours of instruction and demonstrations, along with a beginner’s calligraphy kit that includes two nibs, a pot of black ink, two letter guides, tracing paper and a straight pen holder. All materials used during the class are theirs to keep.

After the ink dries, participants can gather around the outdoor terrace fire pits and compare their new lettering over drinks available for purchase at the Marketplace Bar. Food and beverages from the JB Duke Hotel’s Lobby Lounge menu will also be available to order throughout the class. 

The calligraphy workshop is part of the Dive Into Durham Masterclass series, a fall program inviting Triangle residents to discover their next creative passion. The series is hosted by JB Duke Hotel and the nearby Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, both AAA Four Diamond properties located on the Duke University campus.
